Officer Francis Llewellyn 'Ponch' Poncherello, a hot-blooded Latino, joins the California Highway Patrol (CHIPs, motorized state police) totally undisciplined and unexperienced, looking like a hopeless case; fortunately his veteran partner Jon proves a good, loyal and patient teacher while Ponch pays his dues over and over, as his Latin temper doesn't exectly help, but slowly learns and given his brideless dedication in time makes their team the best in the force, even sergeant Getraer, who always was on his case comes to trust and rely upon him too, enough to let them train new rookies. One thing comes naturally to the sexy hunk: he's a born charmer and enthusiastic womanizer, never abusive.
