Born on Sept.2 1924 and raised in Mobile Alabama, Sid returned to Mobile after the war. He completed medical school and became a doctor like his father. He spent the next fifty years practicing medicine and was well known and respected before he became a focal point in both The Pacific and Ken Burns documentary The War. Dr. Phillips died Oct. 1 2015.
