Susan
Susan
Susan Watkins (last name is on her diver's card near the end) is married to Daniel Kintner. They are a 30-something couple who are taking a much-needed vacation to the Caribbean. On a dive out on a reef in the open ocean, Susan & her husband are left behind by the dive-boat crew due to a faulty head count, and left drifting for miles in the open ocean. Susan & Daniel soon find themselves encountering the biggest threat a diver can face - sharks! As they desperately try to signal boats or planes, even trying to signal a freighter at one point - they find themselves fighting dehydration, blazing sun and the ever-present threat of sharks. When her husband is struck by sharks, Susan tries to improvise a tourniquet & slow the blood loss from a bad bite to his leg. But during the night, in a thunderstorm, the sharks strike again & again, and by morning her husband has died in her arms from shark attack & blood loss. Realizing there is no hope of rescue, Susan sadly lets her husband's body go, and it is immediately attacked by sharks. The attack sends the sharks into a feeding frenzy and more converge on Susan. Eventually, rather than face a terrible death similar to her husband's, Susan strips off her air tanks, removes her face mask....and surrenders to the ocean by submerging.
