Abdul'Allah al-Mahdi Billah was Caliph from AD 909 - 934 (287 - 312 AH). He was the founder of the Fatimid dynasty, and his policy can generally be regarded as expansionist.In AD 921, he sent emmissaries north to the Volga, and from this expedition we have Ahmed ibn Fadlan's invaluable account of the Volga Vikings.
