Val Resnick is described in the movie as a sadist (not the only one in this movie). He smiles nearly all the way through, and seems to enjoy playing the baddy - as does Lucy Liu.As might be expected he meets his end at the hands of Porter, though not in a particularly gruesome manner. It might have been more satisfying to see him looking scared at the end, but he stayed in character, and perhaps the film was better for it.
