Balthasar is the man servant and a trusted friend to Romeo. He remains in town so he cans pass letters back and forth between Romeo his master and Juliet his newly made Lady. Romeo gets sent out of town do the the fight with him and Tybalt. Balthasar is unaware of Juliet steps to prevent a marriage to the County Paris. He comes the next morning with a letter from Romeo for his Juliet. What he see is a shock to him because he sees his Lord's loves funeral taking place. After seeing this he runs back to Romeo to tell him of the death of his Juliet. Completely unaware of the steps Juliet has taken to prevent a second marriage and remain true to Romeo. Thus the lines when Romeo asks how his fairs his love because if she is well than nothing can be ill. This is where Balthasar's lines Then she is well, and nothing can be ill: Her body sleeps in Capel's monument,... come into play. Poor Balthasar in this case is something that no one likes to be the herald of bad news.
