Captain Sean Renard is the superior to homicide detectives Nick Burkhardt and Hank Griffin in the Portland police department. From the very start, however, Renard reveals himself to be more than the average ranking officer. He aligns himself with Hexenbiest Adalind Schade and takes more than supervisor's interest in Nick.Renard, whose own origins are quite mysterious, is aware of the supernatural world of Wesens and seems to want to use the Grimm Nick for his own purposes. His wealth belies his life as more than just a peace officer, residing on the 16th floor of a ritzy condo and employing a housekeeper. Renard is also obviously very worldly as he can speak French, German and Latin.Looking past his shadowy motives, Renard is obviously intelligent and often sensitive to the needs and emotions of his officers. He is, by most accounts, a natural leader.
