Clancy Wiggum is the Chief of Police of Springfield, USA. He is noted for his obesity, his incompetence, and his willingness to be corrupted. Occasionally, he will do the right thing.His career in law enforcement dates back to his college years when he was a student security guard at Springfield University. He suffered from asthma which kept him out of the police academy, but when hippies destroyed Mr. Burns' germ warfare lab, it cleared up his asthma. He later worked his way up the force to become Chief of Police. When Springfield revived a long-dormant alcohol ban, he was briefly fired for failing to stop the flow of illegal liquor into town. He was replaced by Rex Banner, who was able to stop Fat Tony and his gang, but he couldn't catch the Beer Baron (Homer Simpson), until Homer offered to turn himself in to Wiggum. Rex Banner was accidentally catapulted out of town, the alcohol ban was discovered to have been repealed a year after its passage, and things went back to normal.Chief Wiggum has had a tense relationship with Mayor Quimby over the years. For example, when a monorail sped out of control and couldn't be stopped, they argued over who was in charge. He has often stated that he has incriminating pictures of the mayor.His wife is Sarah Kenickie Wiggum, whom he met by framing her for drug possession. They have an eight-year-old son named Ralph.
