Daniel Green is the young, talented and -- let's face it -- nerdy graduate student from Tampa Tech who assists detective Jim Longworth on murder cases in and around the small resort town of Palm Glades, Florida.Daniel is first pulled into Jim's world of not-by-the-book police work when he helps the detective locate and autopsy an alligator who might have munched on a dead body. It sets a precedent of unusual requests and tasks that Daniel regularly and ably fulfills for the cocksure cop. At first, Daniel is thrilled and honored to be included in the police investigations -- feeling like one of the cool kids and taking advantage of the opportunity to show of his considerable knowledge of all things, plant, animal, mineral and technical. Later, when Daniels becomes even more connected to the job as an intern, he wonders if it's all too much.Like others associated with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Daniel's sense of legality -- or, at the very least, procedure -- is tested by a number of Jim's theories and requests.
