Emmett Cullen was born Emmett McCarty in 1915, in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. He is the husband of Rosalie Hale, the stepson of Dr. Carlisle Cullen and Esme Cullen, the stepbrother-in-law of Bella Swan, the stepbrother of Edward, Alice, Jasper, and the step uncle of Renesmee Cullen.Emmett was found by Rosalie in 1935 while she was out hunting and found him clinging to life after being mauled by a bear. His dark curly hair reminded her of the child that belonged to her friend in her previous human life. She carried him 100 miles back to Carlisle and asked him to change Emmett for her. Carlisle agreed. Whenever the Cullens moved, they would renew their wedding vows.Emmett is the true big brother of the family, protective of them all, using his strength to look after the ones he loves. He comes to include Bella in this circle and teases her as any step big brother would. Bella gets the last word in Breaking Dawn when she arm-wrestles Emmett in her newborn vampire state and beats him, breaking a granite boulder in the process.
