Ernie formally worked for Frank Lopez before he was hired by Tony. Ernie was a soft man but was loyal none the less. After Frank was killed by Tony and Manny he was afraid that he was next. After a long pause Tony offered a job and and Ernie accepted and was showed a sign of relief. However he met his fate by strangulation during the raid on Tony's house near the end of the film.
