A reporter for an unnamed newspaper agency, Jerry Thompson was tasked with finding out the meaning behind Charles Foster Kane's last word: 'Rosebud.'His first journey takes him to Susan Alexander, Kane's second wife, but she is too drunk and emotionally unstable to speak.His next journey is to the library dedicated to Walter Parks Thatcher. Thompson is given the chance to peruse the deceased man's memoirs, but finds nothing.His next stop is with one of Kane's friends, Mr Bernstein, and then with another of Kane's long-ago acquaintances, Jedidiah Leland. Both men share recollections of Kane, but have no idea what his last word meant.Thompson then returns to visit Susan, who tells more about her time with Charlie, as well as feeling some sadness for him.The final leg of Thompson's journey takes him to Kane's final residence, Xanadu. Kane's butler recounts a little of what he knew, but the answer to the question still evades Thompson. Some of his reporter colleagues are also on hand, and want to know if he found the meaning. Jerry explains that he learned much about Kane, but still thinks noone will ever know just what that last word meant, as they all prepare to leave.
