Louie is the only main character on the show, which follows the life of this working comedian in New York -- a fictionalized version of creator/writer/director Louis CK. Louie is divorced but maintains a relatively friendly relationship with his ex-wife Janet, despite contentious moments surfacing from time to time. They have two young daughters, Lilly and Jane, and share custody of them.Louie is self-loathing, slovenly and insecure about his weight and general appearance, among other things, but is mysteriously successful in his pursuit of women. He has, at times, been the object of women's affections, including the mother of a classmate of his daughter. In other cases, he's hooked up with women who would later reject him. But he mostly longs for a romantic connection with his friend, Pamela, who he first met at a PTA meeting and with whom he formed a quick connection, but she doesn't seem to want to ruin their friendship by taking it to another level.His career is a successful one, albeit not on par with the real-life Louis CK. Louie has regular stand-up comedy gigs and seems to pull in substantial audiences when he goes on tour. Still, Louie is hesitant to challenge himself and push himself out of a general comfort zone in order to advance his career.Louie doesn't seem to have too many friends and mostly hangs around with other comedians at comedy clubs and for occasional poker nights.
