Melanie is Lindsay's wife (they have a wedding in the second season though it is not a legal marriage). She is now a lawyer but during the second season we learn much of her wild child past after we meet her best friend and former lover Leda. Lindsay and Melanie have a baby named Gus (Brian is the biological father, much to Melanie's dislike most of the time, and Lindsay is Gus' biological mother, which at time leads Melanie to feel left out and as if she doesn't belong). Melanie and Lindsay are the only Lesbian main characters on the show but they do an excellent job of balancing out the wilder-seeming gay men of the show. Sure they have their wild sides as well but they are, at heart, real family people.
