Assistant Chief Ben Gilroy is a friend and supporter of Vic Mackey and his Strike Team. Still, Gilroy isn't able to cover for or defend everything Mackey does. Gilroy advocates for the Strike Team, which wasn't entirely popular with the chief or Capt. Dave Aceveda. The pressure to perform and justify its existence helped set the tone for the Strike Team cutting corners and using any means necessary to produce arrests. Gilroy eventually has enough of trying to back up Mackey, but soon enough needs Mackey's help.
