Avatar Roku was the Avatar before Aang. He was born to the Fire Nation and remained lifelong friends with Fire Lord Sozin, despite Sozin's imperial ambitions.Even 112 years after his death, Roku is able to communicate with Aang in the temple and give him crucial warnings about dangerous things to come. Roku retains certain powers, even in death.Background: After learning of his true identity as the Avatar at the traditional age of 16, Roku began his journey to train under masters of the three other bending arts, beginning first with airbending at the Southern Air Temple, where he became friends with Aang's eventual mentor, Gyatso.He married his childhood sweetheart Ta Min and had a daughter named Rina.He died in 12 BSC after trying to contain a violent volcanic eruption. At first his old friend Sozin tried to help him, but Sozin abandoned Roku and his faithful dragon Fang in the lava to achieve his own plans for power. At that point Roku's spirit was reincarnated as Aang.
