Barbara Chaffee is the wife of Dr. Alan Chaffee, and the mother of Mara, the leader of the alien children.While cooking, Mara throws her food on the floor and Barbara asks if her food was too hot. Mara's eyes turn green, and she forces her mother to place her arm in the boiling water. Jill McGowan and her son, David visit their house and Jill takes Barbara to the hospital. When Alan asks her what happened, she can't talk.Later, Barbara goes outside near the cliff and ocean, and Mara opens her eyes and nods her head, forcing her to jump. Alan yells for her, and Mara closes her eyes.A few years later, David visits the cemetery to look for his lost mate, and meets up with Alan and even holds his hand while looking at Barbara's grave.
