Bill Buchanan serves as Director of the Counter Terrorist Unit based in Los Angeles. He is married to Karen Hayes, the Director of Homeland Security. He has a connection with Jack Bauer through a relative who had previous served with the super agent. He has also worked closely with Michelle Dressler in Homeland Security. At CTU, he is seen as a rock amid the almost constant chaos. He can be counted on to be in almost constant control of his emotions, making his rare bursts of anger devastatingly effective.Like Jack, he holds an English degree. Prior to running CTU, he was the Associate Special Agent in Charge at the Los Angeles Division office. Bill started his career as an agent with the New York Domestic Unit.
