Jose Vargas was a member of the rescue squad, having recently transferred from Truck 81. His career ends abruptly when he suffers lung injuries while fighting a fire. Given 80% salary and permanent disability, Vargas can't take the pressure of not being a firefighter anymore and attempts suicide by jumping off a building into traffic. Casey and Severide talk him down and welcome him back at the house anytime.
