Marie Warner is the younger sister of Kate Warner, an employee at her family's powerful company, Warner Enterprises. As a teenager, she lived with her sister and parents in Saudi Arabia, where she became familiar with Islam and Middle Eastern culture. She speaks fluent Arabic and attended college in London. After her mother died, Marie ran away from home, worrying her remaining family, especially older sister Kate.
