Melisandre (Carice van Houten)Melisandre is a flame-tressed priestess who believes in the the Lord of the Light, which is a different god then that worshipped by most of the rest of Westeros. She is from the distant city of Asshai, she is a Shadowbinder and a priestess of R'hllor, God of Flame and Shadow, Lord of Light. She believes that Stannis Baratheon is the second coming Azor Ahai, a hero destined to defeat the Great Other, the antithesis of her god and thus has become a close advisor to him and his family to the displeasure of some of his other advisors since she uses unconventional, darkly magical methods to advise him.
