Mr. Eko Tunde is a survivor of Oceanic Flight 815 and is one of the tailies introduced in the second season. These were passengers in the tail section of the plane, which broke in half above the island before crashing down. While it was suspected there could have been survivors from the other half of the plane, they weren't seen until the second season. Mr. Eko is a Nigerian drug lord who became a priest and was on his way to Los Angeles to do missionary work. His brother died on the plane years earlier when the small Beechcraft airplane, in which he was smuggling heroin, crashed on the island and remained perched in a tree there. Eko is a man of serious faith and piety, which drives him to administer significant consequences to himself for any perceived wrongdoing.
