Rose Nadler is a survivor of Oceanic Flight 815 whose husband, Bernard, had gotten up to use the restroom when the plane broke in half and the two pieces crashed onto different parts of the island. She didn't see Bernard throughout the first season of the show as he was -- unbeknownst to Rose -- with the tail-section survivors of the flight. Rose has terminal cancer and had visited a faith healer in Australia while on her honeymoon with Bernard. On the island, she is healed and, like Locke, feels a strong and personal relationship with it as a result. Rose, believing in the healing power of the island, is a soothing and calming influence on the other survivors.
