Tommy Ross was one of the popular boys at school, and with the coaxing of his girlfriend Sue Snell, takes Carrie to the prom as a way of making up for the mean things that Sue and her friends originally had done to Carrie. At the Prom, he dances with Carrie and falls in love with her. To their surprise, they are elected king and queen of the prom (albeit to fraud ballots enacted by Norma) and ascend the stage. While on stage, Chris and Billy pull the rope holding the bucket of blood, causing it to drench the couple in blood, most covering Carrie. Tommy is shocked and angered by this, but before he can comfort Carrie, the rope breaks which drops the bucket on his head, knocking him unconscious. Miss Collins and his friends attempt to carry him to safety, but the doors are all held shut by Carrie and Miss Collins is killed. Tommy later dies when the school burns.
