Adrian Monk's agoraphobic brother; a similarly dysfunctional Mycroft to his Sherlock. Ambrose is convinced his father will return one day. In preparation of this he saves all his mail and newspapers, sets a place for his father at the table every night, and leaves his father's study untouched. He writes instruction manuals for a living and therefore knows a lot of small facts about many things. He also speaks 7 languages including German, he is also teaching himself Mandarin. After Trudy's death Ambrose and Adrian did not speak for 6 years because Ambrose never gave comfort to Adrian. Until they talked again, Ambrose blamed himself for Trudy's death because he asked her to get him some cold medicine and that is why she was in that parking garage. Ambrose has left his house twice, once in each episode we see him.
