Randy is the comic relief for the show. He has worked for The SFPD in Homicide since the beginning of the show, but has definitely strayed a little. He has resigned on multiple occasions...once to focus on his music, and once to work on a farm. Both situations were prompted because he felt like he was an inadequate cop. One of Randy's trademarks is to give over-the-top theories on cases. Another is his girlfriends, real and imaginary. Randy idolizes both Captain Stottlemeyer and Adrian Monk. As the show progresses, his respect for both men grows. *Spoiler* In Mr. Monk and the End Pt. 2 Randy goes off to be Chief of Police in New Jersey. Randy's band is known as The Randy Disher Project .
