Catherine Cate Cassidy gave birth to Lux when she was a teen, she was assured that Lux would be adopted. She grew up to become a co-host a very popular radio show with her boyfriend Ryan. Their relation must remain a secret due to ratings. When Lux's father, Baze, shows up with Lux Cate is very upset to learn that Lux was never adopted and spent her life in and out of foster homes. Cate agrees to help Lux become an emancipated minor but when they go to court the judge denies the request and grants joint custody of Lux to Cate and Baze.
