Jessica Hamby is a teenage vampire who is turned by Bill Compton upon the orders of the Magister, as his punishment for killing another vampire. As her maker, Bill is responsible for teaching Jessica how to survive as a vampire.Jessica is young and immature and grates on Bill's nerves as she adjusts to her new life, and the rules of being a vampire. This adjustment is made all the more challenging given that Jessica was in a rebellious phase as a human.She lives with Eric Northman and Pam Swynford De Beauford at Fangtasia for awhile to get away from Bill, but they, too, get annoyed with her.She begins dating Hoyt Fortenberry, a human, although she struggles with maintaining a relationship given her new life.Background: Jessica was raised in an extremely religious Christian family in Shreveport, Louisiana, and was home schooled and only allowed out for Bible study and clarinet lessons. Her father Jordan often whipped her with his belt as punishment and she says her mother Annabeth was too stupid to notice. She has a younger sister named Eden. After she is turned she develops the typical powers of a vampire, including the ability to heal and possession of super strength. She shows an aptitude for glamouring humans.
