Lettie Mae Thornton is Tara Thornton's abusive, alcoholic mother. She believes her behavior is the result of a demon inside her and begs Tara to help her by getting her an exorcism. After she finds God, she becomes pious and judgmental, even looking down on her nephew Lafayette for being gay. Along with this narrow view comes a dislike of vampires. She wants to make things better with Tara, but only on her terms.Background: She was a terrible parent to Tara when Tara was a child, forcing her to learn self-reliance and teaching her that most people couldn't be counted upon.
