Kathleen Kelly is a noted children's author. For many years (beginning when she was six years old) she worked at the Manhattan children's bookstore The Shop Around the Corner, which was founded by her mother Cecilia Kelly. Kathleen inherited the store, and ran it until it closed after 42 years in business, primarily due to competition from a nearby Fox Books Superstore. As a bookseller, Kathleen was famous in the publishing industry for her taste and ability to spot future successes. She was offered positions as an editor, but turned these down to pursue her own writing. Shortly before the store closed, Kathleen enjoyed somewhat wider celebrity in New York, due to a well-publicized but ultimately unsuccessful campaign to save the store.Somewhat surprisingly, Kathleen is romantically linked to Fox Books executive Joe Fox. Previously, she was often seen in the company of Frank Navasky, the eccentric columnist for the New York Observer. It has been suggested that their break-up may have been related to Kathleen's failure to vote in the 1997 NYC mayoral election (Giuliani vs Messinger), but few take this seriously.Kathleen's turn-ons are daisies, Pride and Prejudice, e-mail, New York in the fall, butterflies, scotch tape, twinkle lights, Joni Mitchell, and Home Shopping Network.
