Keiko O'Brien is a human civilian aboard the USS Enterprise-D who serves as a botanist. She has a strong connection to her Japanese heritage and her family and continues many traditional aspects of her culture. She is introduced to Miles O'Brien by Data.She later works as a school teacher on Deep Space 9, where she ends up in the middle of a religious dispute with Bajorans when she refuses to teach their beliefs about the Prophets as mystical beings.Background: Keiko Ishikawa was born in Japan to Hiro Ishikawa and his wife (whose name isn't given). She marries Miles O'Brien and they have two children, Molly and Kirayoshi, who grew to term in the womb of Kira Nerys after Keiko was injured in a shuttle accident while serving on DS9.Keiko plays clarinet in a woodwind quintet on the Enterprise.
