Rom is a Ferengi who works as a waiter at his brother, Quark's bar aboard Deep Space 9 after failing in business. Rom is often referred to as an idiot or a lobeless idiot by Quark. Quark constantly takes advantage of Rom as an employee, even though they love each other. Rom initially disapproves of his son Nog's attempts to learn to read and better himself, and his aspirations to join the Federation. He is in love with Leeta, a Bajoran dabo girl (women who work a casino game) at Quark's, but lacks the nerve to do anything about until it is almost too late.Background: As children, he was often the butt of his brother's jokes and pranks. His parents are Keldar and Ishka. He stayed on their home planet for a decade after Quark left. He has a son, Nog, with his former wife Prinadora, whom he married under the standard Ferengi five-year contract. After Nog was born, Rom fell in love with his life and wanted to extend the contract, but was swindled by his beloved.
