Maxine Fortenberry is Hoyt Fortenberry's controlling, emotionally-abusive, manipulative mother, whose domineering nature has crippled him as an emotionally-stunted mama's boy. She hates vampires and is generally bigoted, but she has somehow not managed to pass her venom onto her good-natured son. She frequently acts like a martyr, citing the death of her husband, whom she claims was gay, at the hands of burglars. She hates every woman whom Hoyt has always shown an interest in, worried they will replace her. She is a busybody and a gossip.
