Melinda Mickens is the long-lost mother of Sam Merlotte, who gave him up for adoption when she was 16 because his father was in prison. She is also the father of Tommy Mickens, with Joe Lee Mickens. Sam inherited his shapeshifting ability from her. Melinda is torn between going along with her husband and protecting her sons. She had a good conscience, but isn't always strong enough to follow it.
