Mike is a McKinley High School student and a member of the school's football team. Despite the social ramifications, the more he is exposed to New Directions and its members the more he discovers a love for what show choir is all about.Without question Mike is most notable for his athletic ability and remarkable dance moves. Whenever possible Mike's dancing ability is utilized to help accentuate a New Directions performance.Mike comes from a particularly strict home. His parents, particularly his father Mike Sr., are interested in his path towards becoming a doctor and are concerned that the arts will be a distraction in the way of that goal. At one point Sue refers to Mike as the Other Asian, a nickname which seems to stick.
