The Trashcan Man is a mentally deranged and schizophrenic arsonist who does the devil's bidding by blowing things up, usually almost including himself. He suffers non-stop delusions, hallucinations and voices in his head comprising of all the people who ever taunted him in his own home town.The place always mentioned where he got his shock treatments is Terra Haute, an asylum for the mentally ill and criminally insane to be treated. He was most afraid of being sent back there, even though the world had ended, which was why Randall Flagg never cured him of his schizophrenia, so that he could be easily manipulated.A divining rod of pure evil, when even the men who choose Flagg over mother Abigail see Trash around, they're reminded of just how uneasy they feel about it. It is only mentioned in the miniseries but Trashcan Man is the one responsible for burning down Des Moines, where Lucy Swann rescues Joe.
