Ianto Jones is a very private person. Little is really known about him - even those who work with him in the Torchwood team barely know anything of his personal life. He once worked at Torchwood 1 in London but after the Battle of Canary Wharf he joins Torchwood 3 in Cardiff as the tea boy and general caretaker of the Hub and its personnel, though his role grows throughout his three seasons on the series.Unlike the other members of the Torchwood team including Gwen Cooper, Ianto is not recruited.
