Paulo is the boyfriend of an actress named Nikki and they both were among the main fuselage survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. They weren't seen until the third season and spent much of their time on the island -- when they weren't whining about not having enough of a say in what was going on -- looking for some diamonds that they had stolen from a TV producer they conspired to kill in Australia. They eventually find the diamond, but the consequences are dire.
